Who is Laura?

Laura Ingalls had the best of both worlds.  She was born in the big woods of Wisconsin on February 7, 1867.  She grew up on the pioneering frontier, moving several times in her young life.  She survived somehow without t.v., radio, Barbies, or play stations!  She cherished a peppermint stick as if it were gold, loved playing 'balloon' with a pig's intestine, and adored Pa's fiddle-playing nights around the fireplace.

When she was 18 years old, Laura married Almonzo Wilder.  Both saw the turn of the century...went from horse and buggy to automobiles, from cooking over a burning fire and coals to 'modern' day cookstoves and ovens, from living in a one-room cabin to spacious Rocky Ridge Farm in Mansfield, Missouri--the home where the "Little House" books were written.

Tour our Little House

In our own Little House in our classroom, we can step back in time a bit to when life was more simple, seemingly more mundane, yet full of the pleasures and comforts of home...as Laura Ingalls Wilder quotes:  I have come to see that it is the simple things which matter after all.

I hope you enjoy seeing some of the 'simple' things my students have learned by stepping back in time in our Little House...
