We made our own 'little house' complete with furnishings.  I like using home made paste:  Put 3 cups water on to boil.  While waiting for the water to boil (if you watch the pot it won't, ya know) slowly pour 3/4 cup cold water into 1/2 cup flour to make a paste.  When that 3 cups of water begins to boil, pour the paste mixture into it and stir constantly.  Cook for 5 minutes or until paste gets thick and smooth.  Cool.  Pour into plastic container.  This will keep for months in the fridge.  Just don't do like me and let the paste build up on the lid, or it won't come off!

Each student needs a brown lunch bag.  Before you open up the bag, cut it off just above where the bottom comes up to on the folded bag.  Open up the bag, and you have your frame for your house.  Take the part you cut off and cut into strips wide enough for you to roll up for logs.  We rolled our strips on a pencil, applied some of that wonderful home made paste, and slid it off the pencil. 

While waiting for your logs to dry, cut a door and window in your house.  We made rugs by twisting pieces of crepe paper streamers, and gluing them in a rug shape.  It was fun watching the students come up with other furnishings...table with checked cover; some drew in the fireplace; others glued a mantle over it; others got tiny pieces of wood to put inside the fireplace, etc. 

Now just cut logs to fit and have fun gluing them on the outside of the house. Fold a piece of construction paper for a roof...  Don't forget to make a chimney...and we took a tiny pice of cotton and glued it on to represent smoke..............I could go on and on, but haven't I already?  But, really, there's no place like home.....have fun; and I would love pictures if you do this project.
