Get Acquainted Ball

This is great for the first day of school and for any day thereafter! I took a beach ball and wrote: Your Birthday, Your Brothers and Sisters, Your Pets, Your Favorite Food, Your Favorite Color, A Happy Memory on the different sections. Then scatter some numbers around too. Give each student a piece of paper with these written on there too. Now have a Get-Acquainted Ball. Toss the ball to a student. Whatever his/her right thumb lands on he/she is to tell about, and then mark that one off their list. Continue around the room or as time allows (you can always pick it back up later when you have 5 or 6 minutes to fill). Continue passing the ball and for fun change to left thumb, right forefinger, left little finger, etc. for a little variation. When a student has answered each topic, give a little treat or whatever you use for incentive rewards. When a student's list is totally marked off and reward has been received, he's not out of the game, because now he is to add the two numbers that the thumbs (or whatever you choose) lands on. Have I totally confused you? (I tend to rattle on and on). Well, just take a look at the picture of the ball, and make up your own rules, etc. What a fun way to learn about one another and reinforce those math skills.
